President Joan Laporta shared noteworthy comments concerning Lionel Messi while recalling the turbulent period of FC Barcelona.

President Joan Laporta recently discussed the most controversial decisions during his tenure at FC Barcelona. The head of the Catalan club admitted having to make many difficult choices, especially concerning the club's major icons during a highly turbulent transition period.

According to SPORT, Laporta candidly stated: “Those were the three most difficult decisions we ever made: Lionel Messi, Ronald Koeman, and Xavi Hernández. We placed Barcelona's interests above all else. These were very tough decisions. I personally intervened in that process. Barcelona is a story of emotions and feelings; you cannot run the club solely from behind a computer.”

Among the three names mentioned by Laporta, Messi's case always leaves Barcelona fans most unsettled. In the summer of 2021, the Argentine superstar had to leave Camp Nou due to the club's financial crisis, before joining Paris Saint-Germain and later moving to Inter Miami in 2023.

Leo did everything the club asked to once again wear Barcelona's jersey, and that was the second time.”
