Coach Kim Sang Sik confirms the number one goalkeeper for the Vietnam U23 team.

With Trung Kiên being called up to the Vietnam national team, the number one spot in the Vietnam U23 goal is undoubtedly assigned to this individual.

During the upcoming FIFA Days in March, besides the Vietnam national team playing friendlies against Bangladesh and Iran, the Vietnam U23 team also has an international assignment. The VFF has accepted an invitation from the Chinese Football Association; the Vietnam U23 team will participate in the CFA Team China International Football Tournament – Xi'an 2026.The event will take place from March 25th to March 31st, 2026 in Xi'an city (China).

The call-up list for the Vietnam U23 team is gradually being revealed with the first nine players. These include five players from SLNA: goalkeeper Cao Văn Bình, defender Lê Nguyên Hoàng, forward Lê Đình Long Vũ, midfielders Nguyễn Quang Vinh and Nguyễn Trọng Tuấn; two players from HAGL: Minh Tâm and Đinh Quang Kiệt; and two players from Hanoi: Phạm Đình Hải and Nguyễn Cảnh Tài.

Since the list of two HAGL players for the Vietnam U23 team does not include Trung Kiên, it is almost certain this player has been named for the Vietnam national team. Thus, the number one position in the goal will likely belong to Cao Văn Bình, a goalkeeper who has maintained fairly stable form in V-League after the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 finals.

Cao Văn Bình continues to be the regular starter for SLNA, contributing significantly to their three consecutive wins in V-League. Cao Văn Bình is still eligible for ASIAD 2026, as the VFF will only send the U21 team to participate, and the goalkeeper born in 2005 is one of the most experienced and high-quality players in this age group.

In March 2025, also at the CFA Team China friendly tournament, Cao Văn Bình received the award for best goalkeeper of the tournament along with impressive performances for the Vietnam U23 team. Whenever Trung Kiên is called up to the national team, Cao Văn Bình once again becomes the top choice in the Vietnam U23 goal.

Cao Văn Bình has previously impressed with outstanding saves, particularly in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout that helped Vietnam U23 defeat South Korea in the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 bronze medal match. Now Coach Kim Sang Sik can fully trust Cao Văn Bình to shoulder the responsibility in March.
