Following a 1-2 defeat to Newcastle United, marking their first loss under Carrick's tenure, Manchester United will have an 11-day wait before their next Premier League home match against Aston Villa. Additionally, in the 39-day span between the Newcastle game and the Leeds United match next month, the Red Devils have just two fixtures: apart from playing Villa, they will travel to Bournemouth.

The British "Sun" reports that Manchester United players complain about having too few matches, which prevents them from maintaining their form and leads to performances that disappoint manager Carrick. In the match against Newcastle, the team had a numerical advantage for over half the game but ultimately lost due to a late goal by the opponent.
Manchester United players feel their performances over the past week have fallen short of Carrick's expectations. Indeed, after winning the first two matches under the new coach against Manchester City and Arsenal, the team's form has declined. In the game against Crystal Palace, the Red Devils conceded early. Fortunately, the visitors had just played in European competition and had a player sent off, leading to fatigue, allowing United to eventually win 2-1.
In the match against Newcastle, the "Magpies" played with great determination, and Manchester United failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage, ultimately losing the game. This left Carrick very displeased; after the match, he only applauded the away fans in the stands and then headed straight to the player tunnel, completely ignoring all his own players.
After the match, Carrick clearly stated: "I am very, very disappointed with Manchester United's performance tonight. We need to learn from this because it is a lesson. We must reflect and improve."
A source said: "Manchester United players feel their performance has disappointed the coach. They believe the large gaps between matches are detrimental to the team, making it difficult for them to start normally. They recognize this and want to change."

This claim is purely an excuse, as the interval between Manchester United's recent matches against Crystal Palace and Newcastle was very short, yet the team still performed poorly. Moreover, the reason for fewer matches is self-inflicted: they finished sixth last season, missing out on any European competition, and this season they exited the English League Cup and FA Cup in the first round, resulting in only 40 total matches.
After Manchester United's match against Villa on March 15th, there is a 5-day gap before they visit Bournemouth, followed by an international break where all top-league club football pauses. United's first match after the international break is on April 13th, a home game against Leeds United.
Carrick does not agree with Manchester United players' complaints. Responding to the schedule of playing Villa 11 days later, he said: "It really doesn't make a significant difference. After losing a match, especially when having an extra player and still losing, we must face and accept it, understand where the problems lie. Regardless of when the next match is, we must deal with it. We know the gap between matches is somewhat long, but it also gives us time to prepare thoroughly."
Under Carrick's management, Manchester United's progress keeps their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League quite high. However, some fans once believed the team could miraculously overturn the situation and surpass Manchester City and Arsenal to win this season's Premier League title.
Manchester United currently trail second-place Manchester City by 9 points and are 16 points behind top-ranked Arsenal, but they have played one fewer match. Carrick has not publicly denied the possibility of competing for the title, yet club correspondent Andy Mitten told "The Athletic" that Carrick does not believe the current squad is sufficient to challenge for the Premier League championship.

"Carrick had to use some players who may not have a long-term future at Manchester United," Mitten said. "But they all have contracts and are first-team players who have been training. So, he can only utilize the available resources. However, no one at the club believes this is a complete squad capable of winning the Premier League. Even for some Manchester United players who have impressed, people wonder: 'He performs well, but can he be a player who starts every week for a team that wins the league title? We still don't know.'"
