Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is dealing with financial issues after the company he founded was mandated by a British court to be liquidated because it could not settle its outstanding debts.
According to newly released legal documents, the business JL Commercial Limited – a company set up by Lingard to manage commercial activities and personal brand rights – has been issued a dissolution order by the court. The reason is that the company has become insolvent and unable to pay long-standing debts.
The legal case targeting JL Commercial Limited commenced in August 2025 and was subsequently reviewed by the UK High Court. The petition for company dissolution was filed by the law firm Pinsent Masons, one of the creditors of the company.
Lingard founded JL Commercial Limited in 2018, while he was still playing for Manchester United. This company was established to oversee advertising contracts, commercial operations, and the development of the English midfielder's personal brand.
Most notable among these was the fashion brand JLingz, along with exploiting image rights related to Lingard's distinctive on-field celebration. Through this enterprise, the English player registered several trademarks for clothing, footwear, hats, and his famous celebration symbol.
However, recent financial reports indicate that JL Commercial Limited's situation has reached a critical state. The company's total debt is reported to exceed £1.56 million.
This debt comprises various financial obligations, including a £22,500 bank loan and over £36,000 in unpaid taxes to the UK tax authority (HMRC).
Earlier this year, in January, British media also revealed that Lingard decided to shut down the JLingz fashion brand after it accumulated debts nearing £300,000. The fashion company was subsequently placed into voluntary liquidation.
These financial struggles emerge as Lingard's football career is no longer at its peak. Recently, the English midfielder secured a new club by signing with Brazilian club Corinthians. According to sources, his salary at the South American team is around £86,000 per month, a modest figure compared to the earnings of many long-time players in the Premier League.
Lingard had a memorable period at Manchester United. During his time with the first team, he made 232 appearances, scored 35 goals, and contributed 21 assists for the Red Devils.
Lingard's peak came in the 2017/18 season, when he scored 13 goals across all competitions despite playing as a midfielder. At that time, Lingard was regarded as one of the standout players for the Old Trafford side.
However, the performance of the player born in 1992 declined rapidly afterward. He gradually lost his place in the Manchester United squad before leaving Old Trafford after the 2021/22 season, concluding a rollercoaster journey at the club that helped him rise to stardom.
